May is coming, and it's full of events!
It’s just another Magic Monday!
April is rapidly coming to close, but we’ve got plenty of fun events in May to look forward to. On Saturday, May 3rd, we’re hosting our first Legacy tournament at Labyrinth in years. As part of the DMV Legacy League (https://dmvlegacyleague.com/) we’re excited to bring you the first of our Beltway Cup Qualifiers! Winning this event enters you directly into the big Beltway Cup Invitational in October. You can register for it at http://labyrinthdc.com/magic-events today!
The following day, May 4th, we’ll be hosting another special event: competitive Pauper Commander! Pauper Commander is a fun variant of Commander, where your commander can be any uncommon creature, and every other card must be a common. The winner of each pod will earn store credit, and it’s always a good time.
On May 9th, at FNM, we’ll be running our Standard Showdown for Tarkir: Dragonstorm season. This gives players the chance to earn a sweet Snakeskin Veil promo done in the style of Cowboy Bebop. Players will also be able to use Standard Showdown as a chance to tune up their decks ahead of the Store Championship on Sunday, May 11th. That will also be a great chance to earn some cool promos, so we hope to see you at both events!
The weekend of May 17th and 18th is our Magic Academy weekend! On Saturday, we’re hosting a Learn-to-Play event for to teach the basics of Magic to new planeswalkers. And on Sunday, we’ll be running the deckbuilding course to teach players the ins and outs of limited play. The Learn-to-Play is free to attend, so encourage your friends to come out! The deckbuilding does require registration in advance, which is already open.
And finally in May, we’re running another Regional Championship Qualifier on Saturday the 24th! The modern meta seems to be shifting, and this is the perfect opportunity to test your competitive mettle in a tournament that pays out cash prizes to the top eight finishers. Our last RCQ was a ton of fun, and the next one promises to be as well. Sign up today to save your spot!
This week’s featured single is Verdant Catacombs. Verdant Catacombs is one of the so-called “fetch” lands which allow you to search your library for any land with the appropriate basic land types.
