It’s just another Magic Monday!

 

It’s December, which means it’s officially Holiday Shopping season! Be sure to check out our website for gifts for the Magic player in your life. If you spend more than $75 on sealed product, we still have Magic card back pins to give away!

 

This month also means we have a number of fun events as we close out 2024. We’ll also be making some changes to our Friday Night Magic schedule starting in 2025.

 

First of all, we have Commander Night every Tuesday this month except for Christmas Eve. Registration for Commander always goes live at noon on the day of the event. Then this Friday, we’ll be hosting Foundations Draft and Pauper.

 

Later this month, we’ll be running a Standard Showdown on December 13th and the Store Championship on December 15th. The format for both events will be Standard and there are some sweet promos for participating in each. The final event of the year will be a Magic Academy: Learn to Play event on December 29th. Although the event is free and no registration is required, it does start promptly at 1pm.

 

In the new year, we will be discontinuing our Pauper FNMs and switching to primarily Modern tournaments every Friday, with the occasional Standard Showdown thrown in before Store Championships or RCQs. After reviewing attendance numbers from the past year, particularly the number of events that did not fire, we simply could not continue our Pauper program. We want to thank all of our Pauper players for their support over the years, and we hope to see you at our other events.

 

Down the road, we have three RCQs coming in 2025, as well as AwesomeCon in April. For both our AwesomeCon and our Learn to Play events, we’re looking for members of the community interested in volunteering to teach newer players the ins and outs of our favorite game. This week’s featured single is a Borderless Ocelot Pride from Modern Horizons 3. For a single white mana, you get a 1/1 cat with First Strike and Lifelink. But this cat also makes tokens if you gain life during your turn and will double the number of tokens that entered during your turn if you have the City’s Blessing. This potent little one-drop sees a good deal of play in Modern, and for good reason. This version features the borderless art of Joshua Cairos.
