It’s just another Magic Monday!

 

Aetherdrift is fully here and is starting to reshape standard! To celebrate, this week we have two Standard events, including an Aetherdrift Booster Draft Friday night! On Friday we’ve got a Standard Showdown. It’s your chance to tune up your Standard deck and earn a special Cowboy Bebop-styled Lightning Strike! On Saturday, we’ll be hosting a Regional Championship Qualifier! Right now, the field is wide open, so be sure to register for your chance to earn cash prizes, sweet promos, and a chance to advance to a Regional Championship later this year! On March 1st, we’re hosting another Magic Academy: Learn to Play! Our staff and experienced community members will be teaching the fundamentals of Magic: The Gathering. No registration is required, and it’s free to attend. If you’ve got friends interested in learning to play or looking to hone their mastery of the basics, send them our way on March 1st.

 

We’re still looking for more volunteers for AwesomeCon, especially ones who can teach MTG (or other TCGs). If you work a four-hour shift teaching in the morning, you’ll receive a pass for the rest of the day to the Con. This week’s featured single is Death’s Shadow. Originally printed in Worldwake, this particular copy is very special and very rare. This is a special reprint from the Mystery Booster 2 printing in the Future Site frame. And not only that, but it’s a Near Mint Foil to boot! For a single black mana you get a 13/13! …But it gets -X/-X where X is your life total. Death’s Shadow was once a dominant archetype in Modern, where fetch lands and shock lands can quickly bring your own life total low, but now lingers at the periphery.
