Magic Monday - February 24th, 2025 - Labyrinth's Latest Magic: The Gathering News

Regional Championship Qualifier recap, set announcements, card previews, the Pro Tour, and more! -- all in this week's Magic Monday!

It’s just another Magic Monday!

It’s been a big week for Magic news! Set announcements, card previews, the Pro Tour, and more! Let’s talk about how that affects our Magic community.

Last week, Wizards of the Coast revealed a good bit of information about the forthcoming Final Fantasy, as well as Tarkir: Dragonstorm and Edge of Eternities. We know people are very excited about Final Fantasy, and we will absolutely be getting it for the store, but we won’t be able to open preorders for a little while. We’ll be sure to post far and wide when we do, so watch this space.

This week sees the return of Modern alongside an Aetherdrift draft on Friday. But we have a lot of events coming up in March, for all manner of players. On March 1st, we’re running a free Magic Academy: Learn to Play. If you know anyone looking to get into Magic, or if you’re looking to polish your strategic skills, this Magic Academy is the perfect opportunity. Bringing a friend will earn you a sweet promo, and if you help us teach, we can throw some nifty swag at you, too. There’s no cost to attend, but the event will start promptly at noon.

On March 8th, we’ve got something for competitive players: another Regional Championship Qualifier! After the Pro Tour in Chicago, the Standard meta is starting to settle, but plenty of new cards have broken into top decks. So, if you want to win some cash prizes, earn cool promos, and possibly punch your ticket to a Regional Championship later this year, register for our upcoming Magic events here.

Later in March, we’ll also be running a Magic Academy: Deckbuilding event on March 23rd and our Aetherdrift Store Championship will be on March 30th. Registration for those events is open now!

AwesomeCon 2025 is still coming ever closer, so if you’re interested in attending the con, be sure to pick up a badge there. You can pick up most badges at Labyrinth. If you’re interested in volunteering with us at the con, please fill out this form! It’s not a commitment, but it will help us plan things out.

This week’s featured single is Edgar Markov. This copy comes from the original printing: Commander 2017 and is foil, which increases its collectability. Edgar Markov is one of the most powerful commanders printed in a preconstructed commander deck and is extremely popular. It appears as a commander in more than 25,000 decks on EDHrec.com. While the statline on Edgar Markov is nice, the real power is in the Eminence ability, which functions even while Edgar Markov is in the command zone. With this ability, every vampire spell you cast brings along a 1/1 vampire token. If you’re looking to overwhelm your opponents with an army of vampires, check out our TCG Player site and sink your teeth into our collection.

Congratulations to Stuart Fronk and Charles Boebinger for going undefeated in their draft pods on Friday! And congratulations to Lane Siems for taking down our Standard Showdown at FNM!

And special congratulations to Jack Yudt and Morgan Kaine for finishing on top of our RCQ and qualifying for the Regional Championship!
