Aetherdrift Prerelease Weekend, AwesomeCon prep, this week's featured single, and more!
It’s just another Magic Monday!
It’s almost time to start your engines! Aetherdrift prerelease is this weekend! The set looks like it’s going to be a grand (prix) time and we have a weekend full of events that you don’t want to miss!
On Friday, at 6:15pm, we’ll be running a three round traditional Sealed tournament. This is your first chance to play the new set, and we still have a few spots open. So race over to our Magic Events calendar to register for prerelease or any of our Magic events.
Saturday morning is our Sealed League event, which is the perfect pit stop for casual players, or for new or returning players who want a practice lap before heading to a regular Swiss tournament. Players build 30 card decks out of 3 packs, then play quick, relaxed games to earn prize packs. In the event of a loss, players can buy a new pack to improve their deck.
In the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday we’ll be running traditional 4-round Sealed tournaments. In traditional sealed tournaments, players build 40 card decks out of 6 packs and face off against opponents with identical records. It’s a great balance of fun, learning, and competition since everyone is starting fresh with the new set.
Sunday morning is the ever-popular Two-Headed Giant tournament. Teams of two players will build two 40 card decks out of the combined pools of two prerelease kits, then square off in best-of-one matches over three rounds. It’s a great way to spend time with a friend, or to introduce someone you know to Magic: The Gathering.
In just a couple of weeks on February 22nd, we’ll be hosting something for the more competitive amongst you: another Regional Championship Qualifier! Be sure to tweak your decks and buy your cards, because Aetherdrift will be legal for that event. Last time, we were at our maximum number of entries, so be sure to secure a spot right away.
This week’s featured single is Hellfire from Legends. This card is legal in only a few formats and doesn’t see much play in any of them. Nonetheless, it is still a highly sought after collector’s item. Could it be in part due to Pete Venters’ art? Or the fact that it is one of the few cards in Magic’s history to quote a real-world work of literature? Or, and this is most likely, is it due to its presence on the Reserved List, which all but guarantees it will never be reprinted by Wizards of the Coast? Only the buyers can tell. If you want to pick up Hellfire for your collection, or any of our other singles, head to our TCG Player shop today!
This past week’s winners include Charles Boebinger and Evan Teng in Innistrad Remastered draft, as well as John Campbell on Hardened Scales in Modern!
That’s all for this week! See you next Magic Monday!
