The Regional Championship Qualifier, this week's Featured Single, last week's winners, and more!
It’s just another Magic Monday! The RCQ is almost here, which means it’s time to get your competitive juices flowing!
That’s right, our Standard Regional Championship Qualifier is coming up this Saturday! And standard is actually in a pretty good spot right now; Dimir Midrange might be at the top but there’s a healthy mix of viable aggro, midrange, and control decks out there. And as it stands, your rogue list could very well spike this event. And there are some great prizes for participating and performing well. Just for participating, you’ll receive a beautiful Mayhem Devil promo featuring art by 百瀬寿/HISASHI MOMOSE. For finishing in the top eight, you’ll earn a Force of Despair promo and a special collectible pin, as well as a cash prize (based on attendance). And the top two finishers will receive foil Force of Despair promos as well as invites to a Regional Championship later this year. So, be sure to register on our events calendar to secure a chance to take down the tournament.
As a reminder, the RCQ is a Competitive Rules Enforcement Level event. This means players will be expected to generally know the rules of Magic, register a deck list, use that exact list in game one of every round, and understand that the tournament will be using the Infraction Procedure Guide to correct misplays and assess penalties. Although it sounds very serious, it’s actually a lot of fun to play competitive Magic, where you know everyone is trying their best.
And to help players prepare for the RCQ, we’ll be running a Standard Showdown the night before. This event also features sweet promos. In this case, it’s the Cowboy Bebop style Go for the Throat and Disdainful Stoke. Or if you prefer to draft, we’ll be running a Duskmourn draft, the sleeper hit of 2024.
Then on Sunday, we’re hosting a Sealed preview event for Innistrad Remastered. Players will make 40 card decks out of 6 packs of INR and battle it out over 4 rounds. The set looks like it should be a blast in limited, so be sure to check it out. But don’t worry if you can’t make it this Sunday, we’re also going to be hosting drafted INR soon, and there’s a launch party event on the 26th, which is also INR Sealed.
And the last events to consider are the Prereleases for Aetherdrift. We’ll be running four sealed events, a sealed league, and two-headed giant on the weekend of February 7-9. The events are already starting to fill, so don’t miss out.
If you can’t make it to the store to play with us, be sure to preorder Innistrad Remastered and Aetherdrift for play at home by heading over to online store for all of your sealed Magic needs.
This week we have a pair of featured singles: Taiga and Plateau, both from Revised. As is tradition around here, when original dual lands come in, we feature them. And for good reason, these are some of the most coveted lands in Magic, and they often sell out fast. So, head over to TCG Player shop and pick them up before they’re gone. Or if you want to sell us your cards, get in touch by emailing [email protected] and we can set up an appointment.
That's all for this week! See you next Magic Monday!
