Magic Monday-July 3, 2023-Labyrinth's Latest Magic: The Gathering News

A huge Celebration of Magic, the return of March of the Machine, and more!

It’s just another Magic Monday!

Happy 4th of July to all! We’ve got plenty of events coming up, so let’s get to it.

As a reminder, there is no Commander night on the 4th, as the store is closing early. Every other Tuesday this month, however, there will be casual Commander starting at 6:00pm. But, because of Labyrinth’s summer camp programs, the space will not be available for players to access before 6:00pm.

This month in drafts, we’re mixing things up. While we’ve enjoyed Lord of the Rings (LotR) as a format, March of the Machine was a great format that we’re going to be revisiting twice this month. The first time will be this Friday, and sign ups for it are already live at https://www.labyrinthdc.com/magic-events/. Next we’ll return to LotR, then we’ll be back to March of the Machine, then we’ll finish the month off by playing the Mythic Lottery and drafting Dominaria Remastered.

Meanwhile, after a break for LotR prerelease and release, we’re back at it with Modern and Pauper alternating each Friday. This week is Modern. Last week’s Pauper tournament was well attended, and we hope to see all our Modern fans trying out some new LotR-inspired brews this Friday.

We also have a few special events coming up in a few weeks. Saturday, July 29th will be the Preview Draft for Commander Masters and Sunday, August 5th will be the Launch Party draft for the same set. And on August 13th, we’ll be holding the Store Championship for Lord of the Rings. The format will be sealed, and the prizes include sweet cards and set boosters this time. Once again, you can register for all of our events at https://www.labyrinthdc.com/magic-events/.

This week’s featured single is Glittering Caves of Aglarond (shown above), a box-topper from The Lord of the Rings that was originally printed as Gemstone Caverns in Time Spiral. A Legendary Land with the potential to start in play at the beginning of the game, Gemstone Caverns sees significant play in several Modern decks. Gemstone Mines has only been reprinted twice before: once on The List and once in Time Spiral Remastered. Glittering Caves of Aglarond is a gorgeous rendition of the card, and you can find it and all our Magic singles at https://labyrinthgameshop.tcgplayerpro.com/.
