We're holding a Celebration of Magic on July 8th, and are starting to see cards from the Lord of the Rings set making an impact! Find out more...
It’s just another Magic Monday!
Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond: The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth (a Deckmaster card game) is fully upon us. Constructed tournaments return starting this week, so it’s time to find out what cards from the latest set will be making an impact.
This Friday marks the return of Pauper after a bit of an absence. Cards like Lembas and Improvised Club are already seeing play in the format, so it’ll be exciting to see what other cards and brews might pop up thanks to The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth. We’ll also be hosting a LotR draft that day. You can register for all of our events at https://www.labyrinthdc.com/events/calendar/.
There is one event next week that is worth highlighting. On July 8th we’ll be hosting a Celebration of Magic at the store starting at 11:00am. There’s no registration or entry fee, players will just buy two packs of Jumpstart and jam some games. There will be a bunch of promos and goodies, including some fancy sets of six-sided dice and the chance to get a souvenir photo that you can use as a 1/1 Human token! All you need to do is create a Wizards account (https://myaccounts.wizards.com/register), show up, and play 3 matches.
This week’s featured single is Nahiri, Forged in Fury (shown in the image above). For 6 mana you get a 5/4 that helps you dig for equipment in your deck. But the card itself has Affinity for Equipment, which means in the right commander deck you can often play this card on turn 3 or 4. All this makes for a card that’s capable of holding its own in EDH. What makes this card so collectible, however, is its Halo Foil treatment. In person, the foiling is truly lovely, though subtle. You can find it, and all of our singles, at https://labyrinthgameshop.tcgplayerpro.com/.
That’s all for this week. See you next Magic Monday!
