Magic Monday - March 3rd, 2025 - Labyrinth's Latest Magic: The Gathering News

Another Regional Championship Qualifier, Tarkir: Dragonstorm, and more! -- all in this week's Magic Monday!

It’s just another Magic Monday!

March has come in like a lion, and hopefully for all of you, it goes out with some Magic! We have events all month long for you to enjoy. This week, we have Casual Commander tomorrow and registration goes live at noon. On Friday, we have a Standard Tournament as well as an Aetherdrift Draft. Saturday, we have our final RCQ of the season; heads up: it'll be Standard format! This could be your last chance to qualify for the Regional Championships in Hartford and Minneapolis!

Later in the month, we have a Magic Academy: Deckbuilding on the 23rd. This is a great opportunity to learn about deckbuilding in Magic, particularly as we get ready for the prerelease of Tarkir: Dragonstorm next in April. The following week, on the 30th, we’ll be hosting the Aetherdrift Store championship! Register for all our events at our Events Calendar.

As April begins, it will be time for Tarkir: Dragonstorm! Prereleases are already open, both at Labyrinth and at AwesomeCon! Previews haven’t started yet, but it’s hard to go wrong with the three-color fun of Tarkir sets. Whether you’re Abzan, Jeskai, Mardu, Sultai, or Temur be sure to grab your spot early!

This week’s featured single is Roaming Throne. Printed in The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, this copy is rendered in foil and bears a stamp indicating it came from a Promo Pack for that set, which makes it fairly rare. Though it’s legal in every format except Pauper, Roaming throne really shines in Commander, where edhrec.com says it appears in more than 300,000 decks. For four mana of any color, you get a 4/4 with Ward 2, which is fine. But Roaming Throne lets you choose a creature type as it enters and will double all triggered abilities of creatures of that type. This makes the card incredibly powerful in typal decks, especially ones with triggered abilities (such as abilities that trigger when a creature enters). This means this is a card that synergizes with every conceivable typal deck, hence its popularity. You can find this card and our other singles at our TCG Player shop!

That’s all for this week, see you next Magic Monday!
