Preview season for Modern Horizons 3, and more!

It’s just another Magic Monday!

As a reminder, starting tomorrow Casual Commander on Tuesday night will cost $5 to sit down and play. You’ll receive a complimentary pack when you pay, and the event starts at 6:00pm.

Preview season for Modern Horizons 3 fully starts tomorrow! The cards we’ve seen (both officially and unofficially) seem pretty potent. You can preorder all your sealed MH3 product at https://www.labyrinthdc.com/. And if you just can’t wait to play with the new cards, you can register for our prereleases at https://www.labyrinthdc.com/magic-events/ right now! We’ll be hosting prerelease events all weekend from June 7th-9th, but they are filling quickly, so sign up soon.

But before that happens, we have a couple of exciting weeks of FNM. This week is the last Outlaws of Thunder Junction draft before Modern Horizons 3 releases! Next week we’re doing a special storyline-based “Dude, Where’s My Dad?” draft combing Wilds of Eldraine, Murders at Karlov Manor, and Outlaws of Thunder Junction, as we follow the story of Kellan’s search for his father. This Friday also marks the first Pauper Tournament since the recent banning of All That Glitters and all sticker cards. Has this changed the local metagame? Come Friday and find out.

Then in June, we have several special events. In addition to the release day draft of Modern Horizons 3, we’ll be doing extra large Modern tournaments on June 21st and 28th. And since there’s no official store championship for MH3, we’re hosting a Master of Modern tournament on June 29th! Up to 44 players will battle it out for store credit and a box of MH3 play boosters for first place. Registration for the Master of Modern tournament is already open, so sign up now!

This week’s featured single is Elspeth, Knight-Errant as printed in Mythic Edition: Guilds of Ravnica. Originally printed in Shards of Alara, Elspeth, Knight-Errant is a planeswalker that offers nothing but value. Elspeth is not quite powerful enough for most constructed formats, but sees play in Commander. What makes this particular card exciting is the fact that it was printed in the limited-run Mythic Edition: Guilds of Ravnica. Mythic Edition was a short-lived series of products that foreran the Secret Lair products, and was designed to be quite collectable.
