Changes to Casual Commander, upcoming limited-entry drafts, June's Magic Presents: Pride event, and more.
It’s just another Magic Monday!
We hope everyone had a great three-day weekend!
Modern Horizons 3 is coming oh so soon! Our first prerelease is just 11 days away, and we’ll be running a draft on Friday, as well as sealed events all weekend. You can register at https://www.labyrinthdc.com/magic-events/ for prerelease, and all our other Magic events. And we do have some exciting events coming up.
First, we’ll be hosting a couple of special limited-entry drafts in June. On the 21st we’ll be running a Mystery Booster: Convention Edition draft for 16 people, and the 28th will be a Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty throwback draft for 16 players as well. Those drafts will be limited to 16 players because we’ll be turning over the main play space to Modern tournaments as we prepare to crown a Master of Modern on June 29th. Since there is no store championship for MH3, we’ll be hosting this special tournament with up to 44 players competing for store credit as well as a whole box of Modern Horizons 3 play boosters. You can already register for that event at https://www.labyrinthdc.com/event-master-of-modern.
The other big event coming up in June is the Magic Presents: Pride event. This is a commander event where every commander has Partner. This means you can brew up a whole smorgasbord of different decks. You can only ever have two cards in the command zone, but other than that the sky is the limit. It should be a blast, and we hope to see you on June 30th.
And as a reminder: we now charge $5 to sit down and play at Casual Commander on Tuesdays. You will be able to check out with a credit card in the back of the store, next to the play space, with a credit card, or at a register if you’re paying with cash. And alongside your seat, you’ll receive a pack from a recent set.
In other news, we recently completed a large singles collection purchase, and we have some extra special stuff over at https://labyrinthgameshop.tcgplayerpro.com/ right now. That includes this week’s featured single: Choke, as printed in the Amonkhet Invocations. Choke is a modern-legal enchantment that can shut down island-based decks for just four mana. It sees some fringe play in a number of formats, primarily Legacy. But with the coming printing of Harbinger of the Seas, which turns all non-basics into islands, it could potentially become a more important card. This particular printing, from the Amonkhet Invocations, is definitely collectible, though not without controversy. When Amonkhet Invocations were originally printed, many enfranchised Magic players complained about the card frame and the legibility of the card name and type line. If this treatment is your cup of tea head over to https://labyrinthgameshop.tcgplayerpro.com/ and pick up Choke now.
And finally, Magic Monday is becoming a newsletter! If you’d like to join our mailing list for it, please click here.
That’s all for this week! See you next Magic Monday!
