Magic Monday-September 23, 2024-Labyrinth's Latest Magic: The Gathering News

Trick-or-Treat Sealed (Chaos) and more!

It’s just another Magic Monday!

Duskmourn creepily crawled its way here! It seemed like everyone had a spooky fun time at prerelease, and this Friday will be our traditional release day draft. The set certainly seems to deliver on scary good gameplay, so register at https://labyrinthdc.com/magic-events to join us on Friday. Next week will see the return of Modern, but for now it’s all Duskmourn Draft.

On October 19th we’ll be hosting our final Regional Championship Qualifier for the round of tournaments that qualify for Portland or Charlotte. The format will be Duskmourn limited, played at Competitive Rules Enforcement Level. There are sweet promos for participating, and the top 8 finishers will receive exclusive promo cards, special pins, and cash prizes. And the top two finishers will qualify for a Regional Championship of their choice next year.

And then on October 26th it’s time for a treat… or possibly a trick? In celebration of spooky season, we’ll be running a Sealed event, akin to Chaos Sealed. Players will start with a base of Duskmourn Play Boosters combined with possibly other play, draft, set, or collector boosters or even Mystery Boosters. Gameplay also has a spooky twist: All players start the game with an emblem that says, “Whenever an enchantment enters the battlefield under your control, choose one: Trick – create a treasure token. Treat – create a food token." There’s limited space, so sign up soon.

This week’s featured single is a Lightly Played Foil Mindbreak Trap, from original Zendikar. This card was recently reprinted in the Breaking News bonus sheet of Outlaws of Thunder Junction, but this is the original foil printing of the card, which always increases its collectability. And although this is legal in Commander, Mindbreak Trap primarily sees play in Legacy and Vintage, where it lives in the sideboard as a silver bullet answer to a portion of the metagame. So if you’re facing a lot of Storm in your games, or just want another original foiling for your collection, head over to https://labyrinthgameshop.tcgplayerpro.com/ and pick up a copy.

That’s all for this week! See you next Magic Monday!
