It’s been a big week for commander, with a lot of changes. Casual Commander at Labyrinth continues to be one of our favorite events. But in light of recent discourse, we’d like to remind everyone that we pride ourselves on being a positive, respectful environment for play.

 

 

This Friday we’ll be hosting two events at FNM: a draft of Duskmourn, which is turning into a surprise hit, and the return of our Modern tournament. Boros Energy seems to have moved into the top spot of Modern, but there is certainly a wide array of top strategies, and the format seems to be in an interesting place. Tomorrow is the start of October, and with it comes a couple of special events. On October 19th we’ll be hosting a Regional Championship Qualifier. The format is Duskmourn limited. As in the past, this is a competitive level event, which means the game is played more seriously, with required deck lists, stricter adherence to the rules, and specific penalties for breaking rules. There are also great prizes include cash payouts and pins for the top 8, sweet promos, and an invitation to Regional Championship Portland or RC Charlotte next year for the top 2 finishers. Spots are going quickly, so sign up soon.

 

 

And then on October 26th, we’ll be running a special Trick or Treat event. Players will be playing sealed using a base of Duskmourn packs supplemented by a number of different possible packs, including Mystery Boosters, collector boosters, and boosters from other sets. There’s limited seating for the event, so don’t wait to register.

 

 

And believe it or not, prerelease for Foundations is just across the horizon. From what little we’ve seen, Foundations looks interesting, with an emphasis on reprints and Standard staples. Registration is already open for our events starting November 8th, and it’s never too early to reserve your spot.

 

 

This week’s featured single is Reverent Mantra from Mercadian Masques. For 3 generic mana and 1 white, you can give all creatures protection from the color of your choice until end of turn. Or, you can exile another white card from your hand to cast the spell. While not the most wildly popular card, it does see some fringe play in Commander. But this is the only printing of this card, and moreover, this is a foil copy. That makes the collectability of the card far greater than your normal white rare.
