FAQs

FAQs - Important Notes for Used Game Sale Attendees

  1. ALL SALES ARE FINAL!

  2. To participate in any of our auctions, you must have a bidder number. It is good to pre-register for a bidder number here: https://usedgamesale.labyrinthdc.com/bidder Bidder numbers will also be available at Labyrinth on the day of the event, but there may be a line.

  3. We do not check the games’ components, you should! Bidders are welcome to open items that are not sealed in shrinkwrap and check them out - even if they are sealed with painter’s tape. You should look at the item before you bid on it because all sales are final! (We’ll have extra painter’s tape around to reseal or rebundle items as needed. Please help us keep bundles together!)

  4. All bundles should have 1 of x, 2 of x, 3 of x on the item sticker, with x being the total number of individual items in that bundle.

  5. The condition found on the sticker was provided by the seller, and was not confirmed by Labyrinth.

  6. All auction games must be paid for and picked up before the store closes at 7pm on Saturday. We cannot hold games until the next day because we need all the space for the rummage sale.

  7. The auction schedule and list of games being rummaged can be found here: https://usedgamesale.labyrinthdc.com/schedule

  8. Live auctions are outside (there are tents and chairs) and begin every hour on the hour. The items for the next hour will be set out by the door inside the store. Live auctioneers will say “Going once, going twice, gone” before awarding the winning bid.

  9. Sealed-bid auctions are inside in the main back area of the store. Sealed-bid auctions will begin on the hour and ½ hour, and will last for 15 minutes each. There are no silent auctions this year!

  10. Bids must be in $1 increments. No change/cents will be considered. Bids will be rounded up to the next full $1.

  11. For the sealed-bid auction, bidders will have their own bidder tickets pre-printed with their bidder number, and they will write the highest amount (in dollar increments) they are willing to pay, fold it, and put it in the brown paper bag corresponding to that item. They will not see other bids, and should bid only once. Whoever bids highest will win the item. If there is a tie for highest bid, we determine the winner by a roll of a die. (You may glance in the bag to see the number of bids, but you may not look at anyone else’s bid amount. Again, play nicely!)

  12.  PLEASE WRITE LEGIBLY! If we cannot read a bid or bidder number we will attempt to locate the bidder, but if we cannot find them, the bid will be disqualified.

  13. We will enter winning bid information into the system as quickly as possible, but it can take some time. Please do not come and ask for results until at least 1 hour following the close of the auction session. For example, if an item is live auctioned during the 10am session (which closes at 11am), please wait until at least 12pm to ask for results.

  14. All results will be displayed on the TVs, and can also be found here: https://usedgamesale.labyrinthdc.com/results. There will also be a QR code on each Bidder card that will take you directly to your specific results.

  15. Bidders can and should wait until they are done with all their bidding and until they make sure that all results are in for items they bid on. Use the QR code on your bidder card to see what items you have won. As soon as the results are seen, you may check out at either of the registers. You will need to give your bidder number to the person at the register. You can (and are encouraged to) pay for regular store inventory at the same time. No loyalty discounts can be used on Used Games. You can pay with cash, credit cards, Apple Pay, store credit, etc.

  16. After paying, you will take your bidder number and your receipt to the door of the private room on the kids’ side of the store. You will be given your games there. We will have bags and boxes available for carrying games. If you need assistance carrying games to a nearby car, please let us know.

  17. RUMMAGE SALE: Doors open at 10am. There are usually 1 or 2 people in line by 8am. The line usually starts getting long by about 9:30am. We usually get through the line by about 11am or noon.

  18. Prices drop at 2pm and at 4pm. Items that have been donated to Labyrinth drop to $0 at 4pm if they have not already sold. You MUST still check out at a register with the free items so that we know they didn’t sell.

  19. You may buy store inventory with rummage sale items (as a matter of fact, please do, we still need to pay staff and rent!), but you must check out prior to price drops. The rummage area will be cleared out and another line will form prior to price drops.

  20. There will be free cold water by the back door.

  21. We have over 2,200 games in this year’s sale from 264 different sellers. Some games have been donated to Labyrinth throughout the prior year. To the sellers, we pay out 80% of the sale price as store credit or 40% of the sale price in cash (as a check). If you’d like to sell games in the future, each year on June 1st, we post the timeline for registering to sell games here: https://www.labyrinthdc.com/events/used-game-sale/

  22. Sellers should receive an e-mail with their results by Tuesday, and we should have the credit posted and checks ready for pick-up by the Friday following the sale.

  23. All proceeds earned by Labyrinth from this sale are put into funds which support our community outreach program. A huge majority of the money goes to our teacher wishlist fund, which we use to buy games at cost for local teachers’ classrooms. Over the past year, we have donated over $20,000 worth of games to teachers at schools all over the DMV. We also use some of the money to add new games to our free community demo library and to refresh kid game demos that we take to local schools for free community game nights. If you are interested in learning more about any of these programs, please contact us at: [email protected]

  24. We hope you have a great time, and get some great games at a great deal. Games deserve loving homes. If you have ideas about how we can make the sale better, please let us know: [email protected]. Please understand that this event is a ton of work for our staff and volunteers. Please be kind.
